Court date for urine scandal student
Expelled Stellenbosch University student Theuns du Toit has been summoned to appeared in the Stellenbosch Regional Court on charges of crimen injuria and malicious damage to property, Die Burger reports.
Du Toit’s father, Rudi, said the family is ‘genuinely excited’ about the development.
‘Now we will finally get an opportunity to cross-examine Babalo (Ndwayana) about his allegations,’ he said.
Du Toit’s legal team approached the NPA a few weeks ago to make a decision about criminal prosecution.
The senior prosecutor apparently decided not to prosecute Du Toit on a charge of housebreaking, but to proceed with the other two charges.
Rudi Du Toit said their only wish is to ‘free (my son) from the allegations of racism’.
The controversy centres around a disciplinary committee’s finding that Du Toit ‘probably’ uttered the words, ‘it’s a white boy thing’, while Du Toit denies this. He was warned to appear in court on 5 December.
