Former President Jacob Zuma is expected to face an ANC disciplinary hearing later this month, reports The Citizen.

The ANC has set 17 July at 10 am as the date and time to convene the disciplinary hearing against Zuma who now leads the MKP.

The ANC said Zuma’s disciplinary hearing will take place virtually.

Zuma was expected to face an ANC disciplinary hearing in May this year for contravening party rules. However, at the time, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula requested the party’s National Disciplinary Committee chairperson Ralph Mgijima to postpone the hearing, citing security concerns and fears of violence before the elections.

With elections now over and President Cyril Ramaphosa having appointed his Cabinet, Mbalula said the disciplinary action against Zuma will go ahead.

Zuma has been charged with two counts of contravening the ANC‘s rules including contravening the party’s constitution when he publicly endorsed the newly formed MKP last year and when he appeared on the candidate list for the party.

According to the ANC, Zuma’s actions to not campaign or vote for the ANC are tantamount to a breach of the party’s constitution, under rule 25.

The NEC initially opted not to expel the former President as an ANC member as that would have required longer disciplinary processes, which at the time it was believed he would not attend.

In December, Zuma announced that he would support the MKP for the elections because the ANC had strayed from its core values.
