SABC execs axed over ad deal
Two senior SABC executives have been fired for trying to hide a multimillion-rand advertising share agreement with an external service provider.
City Press reports that group chief operating officer, Ian Plaatjies, and group executive for video entertainment, Merlin Naicker, had been relieved of their duties after being found guilty three weeks ago.
The SABC on Saturday confirmed it had terminated the their contracts with immediate effect.
A legal opinion by law firm Werksmans in January found that the business plan which had been furnished to the executive committee members in a meeting on 7 November 2022 specified that the SABC would retain 100% of the revenue generated from its digital platform known as TelkomOne Platform.
The R35m contract, renewable annually for five years, was awarded to Discovery Digital.
However, the executives did not disclose that the company would be paid an additional 7.5% of the advertising revenue made on the platform.
