Robert Botha is a consultant in our Johannesburg mining sector. He focuses on developing and implementing legal process outsourcing and legal project management models, with emphasis on efficiencies, alternative fee arrangements and cost savings. Previously Robert was Head of Legal at Kumba Iron Ore Limited and Deputy Head of Legal at Anglo American Group Legal where he managed all associated strategy, planning, legal advisory services and resources, as well as leading a team to defend the company's legal rights and advance the interests of the corporation, its employees, shareholders and other stakeholders. Representative experience: Appointed to spearhead the Kumba Iron Ore team that successfully defended its mining rights in the Constitutional Court against third parties. Headed the legal negotiation team in the retrenchment of 14000 employees at Anglo American Platinum Limited, resulting in saving 7000 jobs and no forced retrenchments. Managed and successfully defended a "military style" strike at South Africa's biggest iron ore mine where 90% of the mine's heavy vehicle machinery was hijacked. Successfully assisted an international legal team in an international arbitration relating to the protection of interest in mining rights in Africa before the ICC. Assisted a multi-disciplinary team from South Africa and Hong Kong focusing on streamlining the shipping and supply of commodities from South Africa to China.
