Sole family survivor to get R5.1m from RAF
The RAF has been ordered to pay more than R5.1m and full further medical costs of Johann de Wet (19), who was in an accident with his parents and brother in 2002 when he was five, Beeld reports.
Johann was the only survivor and was adopted by a family in the Western Cape.
According to court papers, he suffered injuries to his shoulders and had several broken bones. He currently has pain in his left knee and both ankles and cannot stand for too long.
He enrolled for a BSc degree at the North West University, but failed his subjects in the first semester.
The court accepted the opinion that he would have completed his studies in 2018, obtained his honours in 2019 and would have practised in the field of biokinetics from 2021.
He was therefore awarded general damages of R700 000 and R4.5m for future loss of income, apart from the order that his future medical bills must be paid.
