Following two recent judgments allowing registered digital communication to replace registered post in some litigation proceedings, at least one firm has grabbed the opportunity to offer specialised service to litigants.

Netwerk24 reports that the Randburg Magistrate’s Court accepted service of notice through SMS as being compliant with the National Credit Act as long as the messages are accompanied by a certificate of content.

This entails proof that the message was delivered to the recipient and that it was read.

Registered Communication says it is offering products that comply with these requirements.

The company’s Norman Colling said the cost of registered SMSes or e-mails are half the cost of registered mail, cut down delays and receives more responses. ‘South Africans react more positively to communication by cell phones than traditional channels,’ he claims.
