Businessman seeks R3.6m from FNB
Eastern Cape businessman Selwyn Moonieya is suing FNB for R3.6m for negligence and loss. A Daily Dispatch report says Moonieya has accused FNB of being negligent in opening up a business bank account for an ex-employee under Moonieya’s company’s name, Silverton Solutions.
He alleged that this later led to him being defrauded of more than R1.8m by Jean Pierre du Toit.
The report says Du Toit, of Silverton Solutions, was arrested and released on R25 000 bail in 2015.
According to court papers filed at the Eastern Cape High Court (Bhisho), he later committed suicide. Moonieya in court papers said due to FNB’s ‘negligence’, he had suffered a direct loss of R1.84m, while he had also lost R1.8m in consequential expenses.
