Court action predicted over ANC 'step-aside' decision
Political analysts predict that the ANC’s ‘step aside’ decision on Ace Magashule will end up in court and more battle will ensue in the next 30 days, says a Beeld report.
Dr Ntsikelelo Breakfast, of the Nelson Mandela University, said the 30 days afforded to Magashule to step aside was a compromise after a stormy ANC NEC meeting.
‘The (Magashule) faction could start a fight-back and go to court to challenge the NEC decision,’ he said.
Dr Ralph Mathekga, another analyst, agreed that the Magashule faction will fight back by insisting on an earlier general meeting of the ruling party.
The ANC chief whip in the Free State Legislature, Vusimusi Tshabalala, has already called for an earlier national general council meeting to discuss the issue.
Professor Dirk Kotze, of Unisa, said the implementation of the decision that those facing criminal charges must step aside will be the next big challenge.
‘It will be the next big crisis if Magashule does not step aside after 30 days.’
