Nine years after the Vrede dairy project was launched, the controversial project will finally receive 65 beneficiaries today.

According to a Volksblad report, the scandal-marred project has been without any beneficiaries since 2012.

The project is central to the State Capture project and the subject of pending criminal prosecutions.

DA provincial leader Roy Jankielsohn says the party has been campaigning since 2012 to ensure that the local community secures funding.

The provincial government spent R20m per year on the farm.

The Free State High Court in 2018 ordered that the provincial government should identify and verify beneficiaries.

Premier Sisi Ntombela will oversee a handing over ceremony today and opposition parties have warned that the ANC should not attempt to take credit for it.
