Provisional sequestration of businessman's estate sought
The Western Cape High Court will today hear whether the estate of Somerset West businessman Hendrik Gerryts should be placed into provisional sequestration.
Gerryts, the founder and CEO of the HGG Financial Group, was found dead near Hermanus on 4 March, a day after he went missing.
‘We have no reason to believe that foul play is a factor; however, we are guided by the post-mortem result. A preliminary investigation will dictate in which direction we will move with our probe into the circumstances of the deceased’s death,’ a spokesperson for the Western Cape police said yesterday, according to Fin24.
Following his death, a Helderberg construction group and a Cape Town couple instituted a winding-up application against the company he founded.
In court papers, they said they were owed millions by HGG.
On 12 March, the court placed HGG into provisional liquidation.
The Master of the Court will oversee the process to appoint provisional liquidators.
The sequestration bid is being brought by the couple who say they are owed around R43m.
