Golfers sidelined over Fancourt power struggle
Fancourt’s billionaire owner Hasso Plattner has expelled three prominent homeowners from SA’s most exclusive golf club.
The Sunday Times reports that the move sparked an uproar at the Fancourt AGM last month and stems from an uprising against Plattner at the playground of the well-heeled.
The expelled men, all serving or former Fancourt Master Homeowners' Association directors and prominent businessmen, are leading a push to reform Plattner’s control of the estate he developed over the past 30 years.
Since November, lawyers for Plattner have been embroiled in mediation and arbitration proceedings with the association.
The group wants to strengthen homeowner rights by effecting various reforms, including verifying Fancourt founding documents.
Rather than accede to their demands, Plattner used the AGM to hit back by banning the homeowner representatives from the Links golf course.
