Mazars takes over Oceana auditing from PwC
Fishing group Oceana has engaged global audit firm Mazars to take over, nearly two months after soured relations with PwC resulted in it unexpectedly quitting at the end of May.
The fallout occurred just days after its reappointment.
Emphasising the appointment has been made within the 40-day time frame required by the JSE, the 104-year-old owner of the iconic Lucky Star brand said the appointment was effective immediately, BusinessLIVE reports.
With 16 listed SA clients, including Stefanutti Stocks and Steinhoff, Mazars SA is a top-tier firm and JSE-accredited auditor and reporting accountant.
‘We are confident that with this appointment, we can provide shareholders and key stakeholders with the assurance that financial reporting will continue to be impartial and rigorous,’ said Oceana chair Mustaq Brey.
Peter Golesworthy, who is a member of Oceana’s audit committee, said former auditor PwC, which resigned before completing its US books, had furnished the new auditors with all the background details necessary to take on the task of auditing the group’s full-year 2021 results for its US operations and the 2022 financials for the entire company.
‘We want robust auditors,’ said Golesworthy.
