Stellenbosch student's family to appeal expulsion
The family of Theuns du Toit is planning to appeal the decision to expel him from Stellenbosch University (SU) following the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against him, reports News24.
It came after Du Toit was filmed urinating on fellow student Babalo Ndwayana's personal belongings in May.
The Du Toit family's legal representative, Andrew Fullard, they were studying the decision of the university's disciplinary committee.
The university announced the decision to expel Du Toit on last week following the finalisation of the disciplinary hearing, which took place in June.
In a statement, university spokesperson Martin Viljoen said Du Toit was found guilty of contravening SU's disciplinary code for students and its amended residence rules.
Viljoen said these findings led the committee to conclude that there was no alternative but to expel Du Toit from the university with immediate effect.
