Shack installers to pay back money
The company that billed the state a whopping R64 000 per shack structure wants to pay back some of the money it unduly received from the Department of Human Settlements, Water & Sanitation.
According to a report on the News24 site, the Aventino Group was found to have fraudulently obtained the tender by forging documents when the bid was submitted.
On Monday, the Aventino Group informed the SIU Tribunal that it intended to make a settlement with the SIU to avoid a litigious process.
City Press reports that SIU head Advocate Andy Mothibi said they were aware of the impending offer as proposed in the tribunal.
The tribunal was to hear an application on Monday to review and set aside the R15m contract awarded to the Aventino Group for the construction of temporary residential units in Limpopo in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The work included installing 152 pit toilets and three water tanks for an additional fee of R3m. It was found that the structures were of poor quality, while the prices were inflated in several areas.
