Amazon interdict bid dismissed
An urgent application for an interdict to stop the building of Amazon's headquarters in Cape Town has been struck off the roll at the Western Cape High Court.
News24 reports that Judge Mokgoatji Dolamo yesterday declared that the application is not urgent and that a separate application for contempt of court against the developers will be heard at a later date.
The Observatory Civic Association had argued that the developers are building themselves into an impregnable position while waiting for the SCA to hear their challenge to an order that some of the processes leading to the project being passed, be reviewed.
The developers had argued that they have to keep building to stop haemorrhaging money, and avoid the whole project being canned.
The site is on a lip of the confluence of the Liesbeek and Black rivers in Cape Town, and a group representing First Nations Khoi Khoi people are vehemently opposed to it, saying the site has important heritage significance.
