R780k donkey cart deal derailed
A company named as the sole supplier in the controversial North West donkey cart project says it knows nothing about the scheme.
Some of the 20 donkey carts procured by the provincial government for R780 000 and handed over to rural villagers in a ceremony last weekend have already broken down, with locals saying they are not suited for the rough terrain.
The Sunday Times reports that the provincial department of community safety and transport management paid R45 500 each for four-seater carts and R32 500 for two-seaters.
The cost of the carts has come under fire from opposition parties.
The province named LKT Business Enterprise as the supplier.
But when contacted the company last week, its only listed director, Mpho Ramongalo, said she knew nothing about the project.
The company is the only one of that name listed on the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission database.
