Primark targets SA online player
Primark says it plans to defend itself against MyRunway.co.za's allegations that it reneged on a contract to supply products to it, arguing that no direct supply arrangement had ever existed between them.
This follows the recent attaching of its trademarks in SA by the Sheriff of the Court to give the Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) jurisdiction over the case brought against the Dublin-headquartered group MyRunway.co.za, which was started in Cape Town in 2012.
The SA retailer maintains it started selling Primark's products in December 2021 until the supply suddenly dried up in early 2022.
Primark this week confirmed to Fin24 it had filed notice of its intention to defend the matter.
It said it had never directly supplied MyRunway.co.za with products, adding the SA retailer had sourced all of Primark's products via a third party and then contacted Primark to try to secure a direct supply arrangement afterwards.
