Ratepayers sue over service delivery dispute
The Westville Ratepayers’ Association (WRA) will know on Thursday whether its urgent court application to stop the eThekwini Municipality from disconnecting water and electricity will be successful.
The WRA went to the KZN High Court (Durban) on Friday but the matter was adjourned.
Since July, some ratepayers have held back their rates payments due to poor service delivery and high tariffs imposed by the municipality.
Instead, their monthly municipal and rates payments are being held in a trust account.
The Sunday Tribune reports that the WRA had initially applied for the interdict against the municipality when it allegedly disregarded the association’s protest action and made threats about disconnections.
The application was set to be heard on 1 November.
However, due to the municipality initiating disconnections in parts of Westville on Thursday, the WRA requested an urgent application to interdict the municipality.
