Ransom paid to free kidnapped UDM deputy president
The UDM says its deputy president, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa, was kidnapped yesterday while travelling to Cape Town International Airport, reports News24.
He was meant to travel to Gauteng for today's Presidential inauguration.
According to UDM leader Bantu Holomisa, a ransom of R10 000 was demanded for his safe return.
'The UDM paid the ransom, and Mr Kwankwa was safely released, albeit shaken and traumatised. All his belongings, including his vehicle, were stolen. His vehicle was later found abandoned,' Holomisa said.
While details of the incident are still sketchy, it is believed that Kwankwa was attacked while travelling on the N2.
From the information available, it appears that he was robbed and then left in Khayelitsha.
Kwankwa then went, or was taken, to the Lingulethu police station.
Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said that they were not in a position to confirm the incident.
