SARS to seize Zuma-linked spy's assets
Thulani Dlomo, the elusive spy who allegedly did former President Jacob Zuma's bidding during the height of the state capture years, apparently owes SARS R4.1m, reports News24.
In April, SARS approached the KZN High Court (Durban) and was granted a writ of execution, authorising the sheriff to seize Dlomo's assets, according to court documents.
This after SARS obtained a default judgment against Dlomo for the R4.1m in October last year.
For a tax bill of R4.1m, he either did not pay his taxes properly for many years or was found to have undeclared income from other sources.
In 2019, he was recalled from Japan where he was the ambassador, and while he was absent without leave from the State Security Agency (SSA).
In October 2023, the same month SARS obtained its judgment in Durban, the Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) dismissed Dlomo's application to be reinstated to the SSA.
Dlomo, who previously objected to being called Zuma's spy, famously claimed to his colleagues at the SSA he reported directly to Zuma when he arrived at the civilian spy agency in 2012.
Dlomo is also facing criminal investigations by the Hawks stemming from the High-Level Review Panel report into the SSA.
Some of the recommendations were reinforced by the Zondo Commission into State Capture.
