Urgent application to exclude Hlophe from interviews
Corruption Watch has launched an urgent application in the Western Cape High Court to prevent John Hlophe from partaking in JSC interviews for judicial vacancies.
According to a report in Die Burger, Corruption Watch is seeking the interim relief pending a review of the decision of Parliament to delegate Hlophe to the JSC.
It is assumed by some commentators that Hlophe will recuse himself when interviews are held with candidates for the Judge President of the Western Cape, including Judge Patricia Goliath.
Corruption Watch’s Nicki van't Riet said they want the court to deal with the interim relief on an urgent basis.
The organisation will then meet with other interested parties who are also challenging Parliament’s decision to discuss the way forward.
JSC Commissioner Sesi Baloyi yesterday said they have not yet discussed the matter of Hlophe’s presence during the interviews scheduled from 7 to 15 October.
Hlophe reportedly did not respond to queries.
