Phosa lifts the lid on Zuma R20m ‘donation’
'But we have already made a contribution. We gave Baba R20 million!’
This was what Tony Gupta told former ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa in 2010, when Phosa confronted him about the family’s lack of support for the party.
‘Baba’ was a reference to former President Jacob Zuma.
‘I was shocked and told him I was unaware of the donation,’ Phosa writes in his memoir, Witness to Power, which was released yesterday.
City Press reports that Phosa writes that he had no idea whether Gupta was telling the truth about the huge donation to Zuma, ‘but it made me extremely uneasy’.
The book lifts the veil on the ANC and Zuma’s relationship with the Guptas, which gained momentum during Phosa's time as the party’s treasurer-general.
