The Information Regulator and SAPS have been informed by real estate giant Pam Golding Properties that it has been hacked, reports Fin24.

Yesterday, the company announced that an unauthorised and as-yet-unknown third party accessed some of the data on its customer relationship management system last Friday.

It said that it had notified affected clients about the breach.

Pam Golding said that no banking details, financial information, commercial information and/or other documents were compromised. It said that the type of information stored in its customer relationship management system includes names, contact numbers, and, in some instances, identity numbers.

Pam Golding Properties said it was still assessing how many clients have been affected by the cybersecurity incident.

‘We do know that the entire client database was not compromised, as we were able to make immediate interventions when we became aware of the unauthorised access, but we are still investigating the full extent of the client information that was accessed,’ the company said in response to a question. 

Pam Golding said that the identity of the third party ‘threat actor’ was currently unknown to them. However, they have determined that the party is based outside of SA.

The company also assessed that the threat actor gained unauthorised access to the system using a user account.

The company said that it has appointed independent cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and adopt any additional protection measures to help protect the company from future attacks.

All of its clients have also had their account passwords reset as an additional protection measure.
