Just before he died by suicide in February, Lehlogonolo Mabitsela, the estranged husband of reality TV star Ratile Mabotja, reportedly amended his last will, and completely cut her out.

Mabitsela had initially drafted his will in 2016, stating that The Mommy Club star would get 40% of his assets.

However, the revised will includes handwritten amendments, in which Mabotja’s name was scratched out and replaced with that of Mabitsela’s son.

According to the new version, 60% of the estate will go to the two children he had with Mabotja and the remaining 40% to his son from a previous relationship.

The value of the estate is not clear.

Mabitsela’s original will was signed in October 2016 with two witnesses. It was later amended and formally accepted by the Master of the High Court, three months after Mabitsela’s death.

City Press understands that Mabitsela made these changes shortly before he took his life earlier this year.  At the time, he and Mabotja were separated and in the process of divorcing.

The will confirms that the couple were married out of the community of property without accrual. All his assets were registered under the Mothapo Family Trust.

Asked for a legal opinion, Advocate Steve Dlwathi explained that a will can be stamped after the testator has passed on. He said the original copy could be taken to the commissioner of oaths.

‘There’s nothing to prove or disprove with this,’ Dlwathi said.

He said any changes made to a will must follow the same formal requirements as the original, including being signed and witnessed, especially if they change parts of the original document.
