Madonsela spars with in-laws over disputed inheritance
Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela is embroiled in a bitter legal dispute over the multimillion-rand estate of her deceased partner, Edward Foxton.
Madonsela lodged an affidavit with the Gauteng High Court (Johannesburg) on 19 November, alleging that her late partner’s children and the executor of his estate were attempting to implement an invalid last will and testament.
City Press reports that the contested will appears to have been concluded on 3 February, four months before Foxton’s death on 21 June.
In her affidavit, Madonsela draws attention to Foxton’s 2020 will, which recognises her as the primary beneficiary of his estate, entitling her to more than R10m in inheritance.
However, she contends that the allegedly prevailing will only apportions her a property in Cape Town.
According to her affidavit, the valid will was signed on 20 February 2020 and allocates R100 000 to her granddaughter, as well as to Foxton’s granddaughters.
Madonsela is seeking a directive from the court instructing the executors of the will, cited as KP Fiduciary, to implement the 2020 will instead.
