The MHR Maumela Family Trust has approached the Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) for an urgent interdict to stop the Special Investigating Unit’s (SIU) appointed curator from selling a Ferrari SF90 Stradale linked to the probe into alleged corruption at Tembisa Hospital.

News24 reports that Judge Stefan Maritz reserved judgment after hearing arguments from the family trust of businessman Hangwani Morgan Maumela and the SIU-appointed curator, Jacobus Gideon Louw van Wyk.

The urgent application was brought as the window preventing the sale of the vehicle under a preservation order was set to close after 7 October 2026.

As previously reported, Special Tribunal president Judge Bernard Makgabo Ngoepe last month authorised the sale of the Ferrari for no less than R9.5m, after the curator applied for permission to sell it to preserve its value and generate liquidity for his mandate.

The sale application was opposed by about 12 respondents, which the SIU referred to as the ‘Maumela syndicate’, including the trust and Maumela himself.

The opposing respondents argued that the vehicle was not depreciating but would instead appreciate.

The trust initiated an appeal of the judge’s decision, which is ongoing.
