Lawrence Mudzinganyama, who is facing 10 charges arising from an alleged incident at Vlamo Restaurant in Randburg, appeared in court yesterday, with the matter postponed to 30 October for a trial date to be determined.

NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the defence had requested the postponement to allow further consultation with the accused, reports TimesLIVE.

The NPA gave the defence the contents of the docket and said the matter had been transferred to the regional court at the Randburg Magistrate's Court for further proceedings.

Mudzinganyama faces three counts of intimidation, three counts of assault GBH, three counts of crimen injuria and one count of fraud.

The NPA said the charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred at Vlamo Restaurant on 18 September.

'The state alleges that Mudzinganyama entered the women’s restroom and demanded to take photographs of one of the witnesses. He is further alleged to have threatened three witnesses with violence and death,’ Kganyago said.

The three crimen injuria charges relate to allegations that Mudzinganyama insulted the complainants and impaired their dignity by calling them a derogatory name in the presence of other people.

The fraud charge relates to an allegation that he falsely represented himself to the witnesses as the owner of Vlamo Restaurant.

The prosecution said it was ready to proceed with the matter.

Mudzinganyama’s bail has been extended until his next court appearance on 30 October 2026.
