He also received exposure to High Court litigation, as the firm and his then Principal acted for a company, and had to defend a class action brought against it by more than 70 franchisees. In February 2004 Charles was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He was also admitted as a Notary Public in September and a Conveyancer in October of that year, and the opportunity then arose for him to branch out into property law and conveyancing.Charles became a Director of the firm in 2006 and received exposure to, and experience in, assisting and advising developers of residential and commercial properties in all phases of a development. This involved negotiations, drafting of agreements, liaising with the relevant local authorities, banks and purchasers, as well as the registration of all the transfers and mortgage bonds.During 2007 and 2008 he was closely involved with the transaction whereby a consortium acquired portions of a farm, which portions were later consolidated into one of the single largest development sites in Cape Town, known as Burgundy Estate. He was involved in advising on and overseeing the subdivision and rezoning of the land into various portions of developable mixed-use land blocks, as well as the transfer of these development blocks to other developers. In 2009 Charles completed the Qualified Lawyer Transfer Test (QLTT) and was admitted as a Solicitor of England and Wales in 2010. Towards the end of 2009 he was presented with an opportunity to further his studies in Australia and also gain international legal experience. It was decided that he would leave the firm with a view to returning at some point. In 2012 he completed the required undergraduate subjects to have his law degree recognised in Australia, through the Queensland University of Technology. He also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice through the same university, which made him eligible to gain admission as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia.
