Dave Adams focuses on construction and engineering, commercial litigation, arbitration and insurance law. He has a wide range of experience in the various forms of construction dispute resolution, including High Court and Appeal Court litigation, arbitration and mediation, and has acted for and against the different disciplines in the construction industry. Dave is a member of the Association of Arbitrators of Southern Africa. He has been recognised from 2008-2017 in The Best Lawyers of South Africa for Construction. Representative experience: Acts for Bombela Concession Company and its sub-contractor companies in various arbitration proceedings involving the Gauteng Provincial Government in disputes with regard to the Gautrain. Successful arbitration proceedings at the London Court of International Arbitration for a major SA construction company against the Gabon government (recovery in excess of €20m). Acted in major disputes relating to Mossgas, the electrification of Soweto, the Lesotho Highlands Water Scheme, the Columbus Steel Project and other major disputes. Acted for JCI in disputed claims by Randgold of some ZAR26bn, which were successfully settled through arbitration, mediation and High Court litigation for about ZAR1bn. Acted for an auditor and his professional indemnity insurers in defending claims of over ZAR100m for alleged fraud and negligence, which were settled for ZAR10m.
