Before completing his legal training, Garth graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Environmental and Geographical Science, and Ecology. Garth is a passionate and principled attorney. He currently oversees and practices in the Litigation, Corporate and Commercial Law and Environmental Law departments. On the litigation front Garth has represented clients in High Court and Magistrates Court cases including applying for and defending liquidation applications, and instituting and defending actions on a wide range of commercial contracts. Garth has also represented a local NGO in the institution of a number of cases involving constitutional rights. While experienced in “pulling things apart” in the courtroom, Garth is skilled in “putting things together” in the boardroom, having represented clients on a full range of commercial transactions, most notably, the purchase of certain businesses and acquisitions on behalf of a local private equity company and a number of acquisitions on behalf of a B.E.E company. Garth’s education and experience in environmental law (together with his litigation, commercial and general law experience) has placed him at the forefront of this rapidly developing area of law. Garth is married to Lauren (who is currently completing her PhD in human genetics at UCT). He is a mountain biker who has completed 16 Argus Cycle Tours with a best time of 2h56 (on a mtb, with a puncture).
