Advising corporates on tax structuring (domestic and cross-border) and exchange control particularly in the context of cross-border transactions and mergers and acquisitions, are Jackie Peart’s main focus areas. Her expertise includes outbound investments into Africa, as well as inbound investments in the retail, mining, financial services and telecommunications sectors. As a fluent French speaker, Jackie also advises clients on expansions into Africa and on a wide range of general corporate tax issues, which include providing tax advice and assisting corporates setting up business in French-speaking Africa. Having been with Ernst & Young (now EY) for 19 years stands her in good stead when it comes to corporate and international tax and exchange control, particularly in the context of cross-border transactions and mergers and acquisitions. She assisted in setting up the EY Africa tax offering in the late 1990s, heading it up for some years. In addition, she assists multinational corporate clients in dispute resolution involving complex tax issues with the revenue authorities. Jackie has also lectured on SA Exchange Control at the Wits Tax Masters course.
