Sonya Stewart

Sonya is an experienced attorney who specializes in commercial and matrimonial law. After completing her articles of clerkship and working as a lawyer at an established Durban firm, she relocated to Dubai in 2007. During her years in the UAE Sonya gained considerable experience in contractual and commercial law, both in the Middle East and internationally whilst working as an Associate at Al Tamimi & Company, a law firm practicing in 9 countries in the Middle East with over 300 lawyers. Sonya advised multi-national pharmaceutical companies with distribution arrangements in the Middle East.  She also assisted international law firms and multi-national companies on customs and rebate disputes as well as privacy and data protection laws pertaining to the Middle East. In January 2010, Sonya returned to Durban and worked as an Associate Director in the Commercial Litigation and International Law Departments of a Durban firm. In June 2011, Sonya joined Jodi Halkier & Associates and purchased the practice shortly thereafter, where she specialised in commercial law, litigation, and family law. In September 2015, Sonya joined Livingston Leandy as a Director and continues to specialise in commercial and matrimonial law.
