Trudie Broekmann

Trudie Broekmann is a commercial attorney with 15 years’ practice experience, both as an attorney in private practice and in the role of in-house legal advisor.  She is an expert on new business legislation, such as the Consumer Protection Act, new Companies Act, National Credit Act and the Protection of Personal Information Act. She is regularly quoted as an expert in the press on these and related topics. She advised the Department of Trade and Industry on setting up the National Consumer Commission and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, provides tools to ensure compliance with these and other laws to Pick n Pay, and regularly provides opinion work on the application of the Companies Act to clients ranging from listed corporates to medium-sized businesses to NGOs and various state bodies. She is an expert on drafting an industry code in terms of the CPA and POPI and setting up systems to avoid disputes with consumers. She has extensive experience in providing lectures, seminars and workshops on these topics and has presented over 75 seminars on the CPA, Companies Act and compliance to date. Trudie also volunteers for the Justice Alliance of South Africa, which does public interest constitutional litigation and lobbying. She has an interest in NGO law and applying the Constitution to achieve public benefit.
